A modern and systematic take on traditional living for a small, yet busy family.

Oak Wood Home, is the perfect blend between cozy living and your organisational dreams brought to life in a subtle way. With elements such as wood and coral pops, we created the perfect balance between rigidness of lines and the softness that mother nature has to provide.

Concept Inspiration

The Oak Tree, is one of the most loved trees in the world. It symbolizes strength, morale, resistance and knowledge.

Oak Trees shoot up straight and then branch out. This was a good way of describing the family. Their wants and needs were all the same, but they all have a uniqueness to their personality which branches out.

Subject Matter

The subject matter came from the lines that form on the bark of the Oak Tree. Each line symbolizing a year of life for the tree. Looking at the textures, inspiration was drawn to use other textured materials such as corals, sand or glass throughout the space.

Material & Colour Selection

Getting to know the Materials

Material selection played a vital role in the designing of the spaces. The idea was to explore organic and natural elements to balance out the rigidness and static planning that the home currently had.

Keeping in mind the client brief that specified the need to feel close to nature in order to feel calm and relaxed in their spaces, wood was the starting point due to its rough exterior and smoothe interior.

Shells and corals were examined because of their round and nonlinear shapes that are complemented by soft curving lines. They also provide a pop of colour against the wood.

Olive Room

The Olive Room is the master bedroom. The colour scheme here was heavily influenced by the lush greens of nature and plants. The clients requested a space that they could use to escape from their busy lives and have the ability to relax in their room. The room has a balcony which is perfect for reading or relaxing as well as a small lounge area that would be perfect to sit at and enjoy a cup of coffee in the mornings.

Coral Room

The Coral Room was designed for the client's daughter who is away at university and travels home for holiday. The client spoke about her love of sunsets and Pink Sand beach in Indonesia.

This is where the colour scheme originated from and the headboard was conceptualised from the sun setting across the ocean. The Coral Room is also expected to be used as a spare room when the client is away at university.
